For the Shifterstop process, a horizontal milling spindle is synchronised with the workpiece spindle mounted in the same horizontal plane and plunged into the tooth space without contacting the sides. By a linear axis adjustment, the cutting edge of the tool is sent to the full cutting depth in the gear tooth root.
The tooth flank passes through a contour path whilst being machined from tooth root to tip by the cutter which is running in the same rotative direction.
The profile, is therefore free programmable.
After a change in the turning direction, the workpiece and tool complete the process on the second flank.
The advantage of these processes are:
Cutting tool stability
Tool
sweep path lies outside of the material - No troublesome burr development in
tooth root - Dry Process - Involute profile form
